![]() Of course it's a risk, but some of the best racing games in the last twenty years have come out of the UK racing game development studios. That's how they see themselves, that's how we see them, it's how they see us. So I think yes, they are challenged by the customers the same way we are to surprise them with innovation. I have respect for their ability to come up with great ideas. When asked about Playground Games' involvement, Dan Greenawalt said, "I wouldn't trust this partner as much as I do if I didn't expect them to surprise me and surprise our players. Development įorza Horizon was developed by UK-based Playground Games, which is composed of employees who formerly worked at various studios renowned for earlier racing titles and series such as Project Gotham Racing, Driver, Colin McRae: Dirt, Colin McRae Rally, Race Driver: Grid and Burnout. When free-roaming, the player may encounter discount signs which, when smashed, give a price reduction on all upgrades from that point forwards. Other aspects of game-play include an auto-show, in which the player can buy or sell cars a garage, in which the player can manually or automatically upgrade their cars, and a paint shop, in which players can create custom paints, liveries, and paint presets for their vehicles. ![]() In addition to races, the map is scattered with barn find cars, rare classical vehicles that can be restored and added to the players garage for later use. Those rivals can then attempt to beat the shared time. Cameras record player times, which can then be shared among rivals. Speed traps are present in the game, and players can challenge each other for the top speed in a given area. Being the main theme of the game, a large focus of the game is on the festival itself and activities surrounding it, rather than just racing. In an interview with Turn 10's creative director Dan Greenawalt, he stated the game was developed in close relation to real music festivals-namely Coachella-and that he envisioned a more relaxed game-play experience than other games in the Forza series, while keeping a more realistic handling style. As a player's popularity level increases new special events are unlocked, such as races against helicopters and planes. These can be chained together in a combo, which in turn affects the money players are paid at the end of a given race. Acts such as drifting, jumping over obstacles and getting a car on two wheels all contribute to the player's popularity level. A skill system is implemented in the game players earn popularity during races by driving aggressively. The races start at the current location, and finish at a randomly generated way-point, usually more than 500 metres away from the player and their opponent. Players may challenge the other racers they encounter to a one-on-one race to a given location. The roads feature both AI traffic and, when playing online, other player-controlled drivers. It features multiple types of races, such as circuit races, off-road rally, and traditional point-to-point races. The open-world map that players can explore is based on the U.S. Here a Ferrari F40 races a biplane in a point-to-point race.įorza Horizon focuses specifically on casual street racing, rather than professionally on race tracks, as it takes place on a map of temporarily closed public roads. Gameplay Forza Horizon features an updated version of the Forza Motorsport 4 engine. On 23 June 2023, it was announced that the online servers for Forza Horizon along with Forza Horizon 2 would be shut down on 22 August 2023. The game was delisted from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on October 20, 2016, following the expiration of its car branding licenses. It has since spawned its own series, with four additional sequels to date: Forza Horizon 2 in 2014, Forza Horizon 3 in 2016, Forza Horizon 4 in 2018, and Forza Horizon 5 in 2021. Upon its release, Forza Horizon received critical acclaim. Unlike previous games in the Forza series, Forza Horizon takes place in an open world that players can explore. Taking place during the fictitious Horizon Festival, a street racing event, the player's aim is to progress via winning races, while also increasing their popularity level by performing stunts and activities. The game is the fifth instalment of the Forza series, having originally spun-off from Turn 10 Studios-developed Forza Motorsport titles. ![]() Forza Horizon is a 2012 racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox 360 on 23 October 2012. What is going on? Why are our autistic teenagers struggling so much with life? In this blog we cover 10 likely challenges your autistic teenager faces every day, with a hope to increase your understanding of why your teenager is struggling so much. They come home from school catastrophically tired, seeming to need hours in the bedroom lying on the bed to recover, or disappearing into a computer monitor, only to emerge in a worse mood than they went in with. On some days even the smallest trigger, for example, looking at the person, can trigger a meltdown. They often experience very strong emotions, including anxiety, stress, depression, and anger. If you live with, teach or work with an autistic teenager, it is very likely that you have noticed that many days seem to be characterised by struggle. ![]() What do sensory meltdowns look like?Īll children react differently, but behaviour you might see during a sensory meltdown includes children covering their eyes or ears or shutting down and refusing to move.By Dr Michelle Garnett & Prof Tony Attwood Introduction Where do sensory meltdowns happen?Īll sorts of situations can lead to sensory meltdowns: parties, fireworks displays, changes of routine or even just too many changes of activity in a short space of time. This is how it feels for a child having a sensory meltdown. Imagine what that is like but far, far more intense, as you experience these things for the very first time and are still trying to make sense of the world around you. ![]() It’s not behaviour that can be controlled or stopped through better understanding of their feelings and emotions, instead it’s a reaction to the environment around them.Ī good way to understand it is to think of times when you’ve felt overwhelmed by a busy, loud, bright, smelly environment. But remember, this is not your child behaving badly, so cut yourself a break.Īlthough it can look like a temper tantrum, a sensory meltdown is when a child reacts to overstimulation through sights, sounds, tastes, textures and sounds. It's difficult, especially when a meltdown happens in public. Tell your child in advance that it might be noisy, ask them to say if it's getting too much, and bring along their favourite cuddly toy. Think about environments that may be over-stimulating and plan for them, or when routines change, or going to a crowded place, such as a shopping centre. ![]() If possible move your child away from the environment they're reacting to.Ĭan you find somewhere gentler on their ears, eyes, and other senses? But how can you manage this when everything is so sensitive? A child having a sensory meltdown often wants quiet and calm. It's reacting to the environment, and it's often beyond their control.Ī child to stop having a tantrum, usually when they get what they want. A sensory meltdown is an overload to the brain by too much stimulation from lights, sounds, sights, tastes, and textures. Tantrums often happen out of frustration. That's what having a sensory meltdown can feel like for a child.Ī sensory meltdown is very different to a tantrum. Well imagine that feeling multiplied thousands of times. ![]() You know that overloaded feeling you get when you're in a really busy shop, or when everyone's talking far too loudly? ![]() There are also a few "expert tools" for testing and repairing hard disks and recovering deleted files. You can reset passwords for Windows and Linux, restore GRUB or a Windows Master Boot Record, and perform a file system check for Linux systems. The wizard helps you perform various repair tasks without having to have extensive knowledge of the command line. It's still a beta release, so there are some rough edges, but it provides easy access to various tools using its wizard, Rescapp. Rescatux is a repair distribution designed to fix problems with both Linux and Windows. Users needing an even more robust backup and recovery system should check out Clonezilla Server Edition, which works much like the Live version but requires a dedicated server installation. As an added bonus, once you have selected a task, Clonezilla provides you with the command line options you can use to run that task again without having to work your way through all the menus.Ĭlonezilla is developed by Taiwan's National Center for High-Performance Computing's Free Software Labs and is released under the GNU General Public License Version 2. The menu options in the interface walk you through everything. ![]() Clonezilla's user interface is a spartan ncurses-based menu system, but is very usable. The underlying software used for creating images is Partclone, which provides a wide array of options and supports a large number of file systems. Clonezilla can save images to and restore images from a local device (such as a hard disk or USB flash drive) or over the network using SSH, Samba, or NFS. Clonezilla Liveĭesigned for backup and recovery of disk images and partitions, Clonezilla Live is an open source alternative to Norton Ghost. If you like, you can even try using Scott Nesbitt's instructions for how to test drive Linux to install these distributions to a USB stick instead of burning a CD or using the sometimes more complex instructions available on the projects' websites for creating a bootable flash drive installation. Give them a try, and make sure you keep CDs or USB drives with your favorites handy for when something does go wrong. Many of them even have customized user interfaces to make using the software easier.īelow, I look at five different Linux distributions designed to make your life easier when computers start giving you a headache. So while you can find the vast majority of the same software packages are included in the repositories for the major distributions, these specialized distributions are designed to put all the programs you would need for computer repair or backup/restoration in one convenient place. These distributions have a much narrower focus than the major desktop and server Linux distributions. Many of these tools are actually highly-specialized Linux distributions.

The system is VERY easy to setup, and now that you can add another set to get a true 5. Now comes the reason for explaining the very expensive surround sound system previously to really highlight how good this setup is - I prefer watching blockbuster movies on this system versus on a true 5.1 system running $2,000 Bowers and Wilkins speakers! ![]() Some reviewers from Metro have said that the change isn't really noticeable at all, but the change to loading screens was a "nice touch". The graphics for cutscenes are also improved, although it is argued that the graphics still aren't up to standard of what other PS4 games have to offer. The higher frame rate also came with a bigger draw distance than before, as well as the textures of objects (such as trees) being improved along with shadows of characters becoming more life-like they now display the outline of the character shown. Some did admit that it was better once they got used to it. The people at IGN, however, are said to have found the change "jarring", many opting to play the game in 30fps instead an option, allowing for the game to be locked at 30 FPS, is available to players if they don't want to play in 60fps or perhaps want to compare the difference. The graphics of Remastered are enhanced on the PS4 console, enabling players to experience and view the world of The Last of Us in 60 frames per second compared to 30 frames per second on the PS3. Characters also have extra lines at different points in the game, such as Ellie reacting to Joel – he now replies occasionally to her remarks on killing enemies. Although, the player can adjust the game settings to revert to how they were set on the PlayStation 3.Īlso, the increased frame rate now makes the combat "smoother" and "more refined" it flows better now, allowing players to enter combat and not be inhibited by the frame rate. The artificial intelligence is more or less the same too, along with all the controls. However, activating Listen Mode now requires the player to use the R1 button instead of the R2 button. The combat of Remastered is essentially the exact same as the original release of The Last of Us, facing against humans and infected with melee combat and weapons such as guns even the same cover system is used. The dualshock's touch pad is also used to scroll through the player's inventory of items. The health bar color is also shown on the controller, turning from green to orange to red as the player accumulates damage. The recordings also play without forcing the player in the screen to keep listening to it. Recordings of collectibles found are now heard through the speaker of the dual shock controller, along with the noise of turning the flashlight on and off even when shaking it. The gameplay has notably changed in a few different ways. Notable differences to the original Gameplay Main article: The Last of Us#Combat It follows a hardened survivor Joel and an immune teenager Ellie crossing across a post-apocalyptic United States in order to find a group called the Fireflies, who would be able to create a cure against the disease by studying Ellie's immunity.
